The Waterfront Restaurant

restaurant_image      For a belated Mother's Day (we are both notorious procrastinators), I took my Mother out to lunch at The Waterfront Restaurant in Camden. The first thing I found was that they don't take reservations, although in this case it wasn't a problem since when we went in it wasn't that busy. We were seated right away; the waitress was quick and courteous.

We ordered Skewered Grilled Shrimp as an appetizer. For main dishes, my Mother ordered the Seafood Quesadilla and I ordered the Salmon Burger, which came with a choice of Fries, Cole Slaw, or Three-Bean Salad. Being a traditionalist, I chose the fries.

The appetizer of Skewered Grilled Shrimp was good, but with only five shrimp, seemed rather overpriced (over a dollar a shrimp). Our main courses arrived fairly quickly. The first things I noticed were that the portions were nice and large and the presentation was very well done.

The Salmon Burger was served on a toasted bun with lettuce and tomato, topped with a sort of tartar sauce. It was a bit hard to get my mouth around the burger, but to me that is the sign of a good burger. The salmon patty was tasty, but a bit dry for my tastes. The fries were excellent, salted just the right amount.

My Mother said her Seafood Quesadilla was good; she was pleased that they provided good amounts of guacamole and sour cream - many restaurants, she noted, provide only a small dollop of each.

After the meal, we were too full for dessert, so that will have to wait till a later review.

One interesting thing I just have to mention is that just above our table was a photograph of an old man sitting at a table. On closer inspection, the man in the photo was sitting at the exact table we were seated at, which was laid out exactly the same way - a clever idea and a very interesting photograph.

So my assessment: you might want to skip the pricey appetizers, but the main courses are definitely worth it. Website: www.waterfrontcamden.com
