Yee-haw! BBQ in Maine!
The Olde Flame Barbeque Pit & Taphouse [131 Cottage Street] is new this
season. Their menu offers baby back ribs; country-style ribs; pork
spareribs; ˝ smoked chicken; beef brisket; beef ribs; and pulled pork,
smoked chicken and barbecue-beef sandwiches. With each meal you are
presented with five sauces, from a sweet tomato-based for the tame to the
back burner and the red-stripe for the more adventurous. For lunch the
pulled-pork sandwich with a side of yummy steak fries is sure to fill you
up. At dinner, all entrees come with cornbread and two sides: the baked
potatoes are the best, other choices include coleslaw and potato salad. For
a lighter meal, the barbecue sampler appetizer is quite large. Try it with a
large side salad loaded with fresh veggies. Other offerings include peel and
eat shrimp and veggie kabobs for the vegetarian in your family. The Olde
Flame is open 11:30 am to 1:00 am every day, with 28 beers on tap.
In its second year, the Cattleman's BBQ in Southwest Harbor is an
unpretentious outfit modeled after the Texan roadside barbecue joint: your
meal is served on paper plates with plastic utensils, and a roll of paper
towels sits on every table. Their menu includes sliced or shredded barbecue
beef, baby back ribs, barbecue chicken, pulled pork, hamburgers and veggie
burgers. Meals are accompanies by barbecue beans, coleslaw, potato salad,
rosemary bread, and a tub of the house sauce. Meats are also available by
weight for take-out. Open at 4:00 on Carroll Hill.
