Vegetarian Delights
To start out your day, stop by Cafe This Way [14 1/2 Mt. Desert St., Bar
Harbor] for a delicious selection of breakfast items. Try the standards -
pancakes, french toast, homefries, or choose a specialty omelet (our
favorite: goat cheese, fresh tomatoes and basil). Cafe This Way offers soy
milk and natural sugar alternatives, and fresh juices or mimosas to wash it
all down.
For breakfast or lunch, 2 Cats serves up
plenty of vegetarian fare, including breakfast burritos, mediterranean
breakfast (polenta, spinach and homemade caponata) and veggie eggs benedict.
They also make their own muffins and pastries. Eat lunch on the deck or have
it boxed to go. Choose from hot or cold sandwiches like the Junior: goat
cheese, tomato, scallions and parsley, Irene: hummus and veggie pita with
balsamic vinaigrette, or Pippi: tempeh reuben with marinated tempeh,
saurkraut, cheese and Russian dressing. Be sure to try a fruit smoothie,
too.
The Lompoc Cafe also offers a large
vegetarian selection at lunch. Begin with the spicy hummus platter, baked
spinach artichoke gratin (yummy!), or Indonesian peanut sauce. Other choices
include a portabella mushroom melt, szechuan eggplant wrap, and a variety of
salads.
For dinner, travel to The Burning Tree in Otter Creek. This chef-owned
restaurant gets rave reviews for their large selection of vegetarian and
fresh seafood entrees. Or stay in town and visit Elaine's Starlight Oasis a vegetarian oasis with mouth-watering offerings like
seitan burgundy, mushroom lasagne, tempeh parmesan, and penne pesto. For the
vegan with a sweet tooth, be sure to drop by Elaine's for desserts that
will please your palette.
