Aliant Inc. announces acquisition of AcadiaNet

SAINT JOHN/BANGOR – November 1, 1999 – Aliant Inc., parent company of Atlantic Canada’s major telecommunications providers, today announced it is expanding its Internet business into the New England market. Aliant has signed a purchase and sale agreement with AcadiaNet Inc., an Ellsworth-based Internet company with 6,000 customers.

They bring essential Internet and new media skills, e-commerce capabilities, and an in-depth knowledge of the Maine marketplace. Mr. Irvin will continue to assume a senior leadership role, contributing to Aliant’s growth strategy in helping expand the company’s Internet market throughout Maine and New England, and in building upon Aliant’s existing Internet base of more than 155,000 customers.
