Marine Museum Seeks Auction Donations
The Penobscot Marine Museum will hold its Benefit Auction and Dinner-Dance under tent at the Belfast Boathouse Commons on Saturday, August 5th. The Museum is currently seeking donations of art, antiques, furniture, pottery, classic automobiles, all types of boats, marine related equipment, marine art and ship models, windjammer trips, excursion on private yachts, stays at vacation houses and condos, and sporting and cultural event tickets for both
the silent and live auctions.
The Museum is planning to publish a color catalog and the deadline for inclusion in the catalog is May 10. Items received after that date will be published in the catalog addendum.
Among the items received to date are a Mini Week at The Greenhouse Spa in Texas, a watercolor by Anne Kilham "Penobscot Bay Island" and a linocut "Bird's Nest",a signed numbered print by Marlene Evans Putnam "Morning Sea", a signed limited edition print by Loretta Krupinski "White Wings", a cased waterline model of a Friendship sloop, signed print "Red Tulips Against a White Background" by Lyn Snow, two nights at Le Domaine Inn and Restaurant Francais, antique gun, antique porcelain, a stay at The Monhegan House with passage on the ferry, and a signed print by John Stobart of a new painting
of a schooner in Camden Harbor.
The Auction will raise general operating revenues for the Penobscot Marine Museum and this year's goal is to raise $100,000. The Museum hopes that individuals and local businesses will respond generously to its appeal for auction items. The Penobscot Marine Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and exhibition of the history of Penobscot Bay and the maritime history of Maine. It's collections are displayed in 25 galleries spaces and its campus includes 13 modern and historic buildings, eight of which are National Historic Register sites.
