Maine DMV to test online vehicle registration
This summer, 10 Maine communities will find themselves on the cutting edge of online convenience. They will be able to replace the trip to City Hall and the long wait in line with a few clicks of the mouse. Via the internet, they will be able to register their vehicle, pay excise tax, and verify that they have insurance. The DVM name for this project is Rapid Renewal.
The 10 communities selected for this exciting pilot project are: Bangor, Brunswick, China, Columbia Falls, Corinna, Hermon, Lewiston, Portland, Saco and Waterville. They were chosen based on location, size, and interest shown.
Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky has high hopes for the test program. "It seemed to us the logical way to use technology to provide a higher level of service for customers.", he commented, also stating that his department plans on providing 13 online services by August, including the Rapid Renewal program.
