Eastern Maine Childrens Museum Reaches 60% of Fundraising Goal
The EMCM is set to open in December 2000 in the first three floors of the
former Freese building on Main Street in Bangor. About a third of the museum
's 24,000 square feet will be devoted to exhibits. Other space will house a
small theater, museum offices, a lobby and a gift shop. In addition to
several permanent exhibits, there are plans to include a revolving exhibit
space. This revolving space would allow the museum to display traveling
exhibits from other museums as well as displays created by Maine high
schools and colleges.
The $1.8 million the capital campaign has earned so far has taken place in
the "quiet phase" of the campaign, a time in which donations have been
limited to area foundations, corporations and other large donors. The city
of Bangor has donated the first floors of the Freese building, valued at
$1.25 million. The community phase of the campaign, which will focus on
raising the remaining $2 million, begins next month. For information on this
capital campaign, contact campaign manager Martha Dudman at 941-0942.
